Why a Republican who has fought the Affordable Care Act will support the health care law

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) has announced he will support President Donald Trump’s health care overhaul.

Johnson is a member of the Senate GOP caucus.

Johnson said in a statement he supports Trump’s efforts to stabilize the insurance market and that Republicans “must do more to bring down costs, improve access, and expand coverage.”

“The Senate Republican caucus is committed to repealing Obamacare, passing a bipartisan bill that addresses the underlying causes of the ACA, and continuing to move forward with the President’s agenda,” Johnson said.

“If elected president, I will continue to lead our caucus and lead on this important issue.

I look forward to working with President Trump and the Republican Congress to pass the strongest health care plan in our nation’s history.”

Johnson will announce his decision on Thursday at the White House, where he will hold a press conference with the president.
